Cercel received research fellowships from and held research positions at a variety of institutions: Institute for German Culture and History in Southeast Europe (Munich), New Europe College (Bucharest), Swansea University, Herder Institute (Marburg), Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (Potsdam), Center for Advanced Study (Sofia).
Research interests: politics of memory, Central and Eastern European history, nationalism, ethnicity, German minorities.
